Candidates for statewide offices endorsed by the Progressive Party State Committee on Saturday:

GOVERNOR: None. Progressives “spoke with a lot of potential candidates,” party Vice Chairman Morgan Daybell said, but none worked out. The party is opting instead to focus its resources on the lieutenant governor and legislative races, he said.

LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR: Dean Corren of Burlington, a former state legislator. He’s challenging Republican incumbent Phil Scott, as is Democrat John Bauer, whom Progressives declined to endorse (see related story).

AUDITOR: Doug Hoffer of Burlington, the incumbent who is running in the Democratic primary but has Progressive roots. He has no known opposition.

SECRETARY OF STATE: Ben Eastwood of Montpelier. The committee voted down a motion to endorse Democratic incumbent Jim Condos, as committee member Barry Kade argued that Condos has been a champion of open records. Eastwood countered that Condos fought to keep independent presidential candidate Rocky Anderson off the Vermont ballot and that as a former lobbyist for Vermont Gas Systems, the company expanding its natural gas pipeline, Condos is a “crony capitalist.”

TREASURER: Don Schramm of Burlington, who has run for the office twice before as a Progressive. He’ll face Democratic incumbent Beth Pearce.

ATTORNEY GENERAL: Shawn Jarecki of Pittsfield, a graduate of Vermont Law School, initially accepted the nomination then decided afterward against it. Party Vice Chairman Morgan Daybell said the party might still have a candidate for the office.

The Progressive Party also expects to have 17 legislative candidates, including departing party Executive Director Robert Millar, who is running for a House seat in Winooski.
